Taproot Upgrade is Live

The application is a milestone for Bitcoin, considering that Taproot is the first significant upgrade in the network since August 2017 after the Lightning Network and Segregated Witness (SegWit) upgrades.

While SegWit and the Lightning Network focus on making deals quicker and less expensive, Taproot brings a lot more than just enhancing scalability and minimizing fees. As described in a previous report, the current upgrade aims to increase privacy and security for the procedure.

Taproot brings Schnorr Signatures to lower some of the burdens on the network while boosting simplicity, efficiency, and security. It creates a sort of master key to summarize a set of signatures in a single one. This makes it possible to carry out multi-signature multi-input deals (UTXI) a lot simpler, much faster, and more affordable.

Making Smart Contracts More Efficient

Furthermore, Taproot intends to enhance Bitcoin’s scripting language through the principle of Merkelized Abstract Syntax Tree (MAST). This opens the door for clever contract abilities on the network, therefore leading to even higher adoption.

” It (MAST) can assist make clever agreements more efficient and personal by just exposing the appropriate parts of the agreement when costs,” according to Taproot.watch, a dedicated site for the upgrade managed by Bitcoin developer Hampus Sjöberg.

Sjöberg thinks that “Taproot is a 100 years soft fork” that “will, in the long-run, yield a more fungible and robust blockchain.”

90% Agreement For Taproot

Bitcoin is a decentralized protocol that requires an approval process because any network-wide upgrade can be released. As such, miners and mining pools utilized a Fast Trial technique to reach an agreement and coordinate the release of the Taproot.

The Rapid Trial involved miners indicating for the implementation in their mined block. To lock in the upgrade for activation, 90% of the blocks need to signify, which was achieved for Taproot in June, as reported by CryptoPotato.

With Taproot now reside on the network, it will be intriguing to see what the future holds for Bitcoin.
