Williston also accepts cryptocurrencies for payments of energy costs.

‘ The First Government-Hosted Cryptocurrency Kiosk’ The city of Williston in the U.S. state of North Dakota revealed Wednesday a partnership with crypto ATM operator Coin Cloud to install a cryptocurrency ATM at its Williston Basin International Airport (XWA). The city composed:

This marks the first government-hosted cryptocurrency kiosk and the first Coin Cloud installation in an airport.

” This is an ambitious action in introducing and engaging the general public towards cryptocurrency while proactively contributing in developing the digital community,” commented the city’s financing director, Hercules Cummings. “Although we are a smaller sized rural community, we are making an impact. Taking this small step may pave the method for other federal government and industrial entities to do the same.”

Coin Cloud’s crypto ATMs, referred to as Digital Currency Machines (DCMs), enable users to buy and offer over 40 cryptocurrencies, consisting of bitcoin, bitcoin cash, dogecoin, shiba inu, cardano, and ether. Users can also withdraw cash from their digital wallets. The city clarified that it does not function as the fund custodian or handle any crypto deals, emphasizing that purchases and withdrawals are handled by Coin Cloud.

Cummings believed: “Typically when you acquire crypto on an exchange, the transaction is directly tied to your bank through a bank account, debit card, or tied to your credit card … Transforming money to crypto through the DCM means there are no recognizable charges, checking account, or charge card. The deposit and withdrawal procedure happens in between the DCM and your digital wallet, merely using cash.”

The city’s finance director even more described that Williston partnered with Bitpay in May “to accept digital currency for city energy bills.”

He kept in mind: “Now with a municipal-hosted DCM, we are developing an effective plan for the public to accept cryptocurrency.” Referring to allowing citizens to pay with cryptocurrencies, Cummings stated:

We are the very first town in the State of North Dakota, and the 3rd in the nation, to use this service.

The city clarified that just energy costs are presently qualified to be paid with cryptocurrency, keeping in mind that “Quality assessments will be conducted, and volumes evaluated, before moving other expenses such as land fill, allows, and licenses.”
