IOTA and ENGIE – development of an intelligent energy ecosystem

[ad_1]

Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) is changing the way energy ecosystems work at the city level. The IOTA Foundation and ENGIE Lab Crigen, a research center run by ENGIE, have partnered to produce new, intelligent energy ecosystems using blockchain.

IOTA, IoT and energy ecosystems

Under the agreement, ENGIE’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab (CSAI Lab) will experiment with IOTA Tangle to develop joint proof-of-concept solutions for improving business processes and services in the energy sector.

IOTA Tangle is an open-source blockchain protocol designed to enable IoT interactions, smooth micropayments, and secure data transfer. The protocol serves as a structure for the decentralized data marketplace. In the blog post, CSAI Lab Research Manager Philippe Calvez said:

Many tasks and proof-of-concept have already been implemented in the lab and we would like to participate in major projects in France and abroad to flesh out and expand the use of innovative DLT technologies such as IOTA’s in various ENGIE business units.

ENGIE Lab Crigen is the research arm of the ENGIE Group, an energy service provider for natural gas and electricity. The lab is researching new energy solutions and alternatives using innovation in AI, nanotechnology and sensors. Wilfried Pimenta de Miranda, Head of Business Development at the IOTA Foundation, added:

The IOTA Foundation looks forward to working with ENGIE Lab to accelerate the technology development and prototyping process through concrete pilot projects and international cooperation within the energy and utility industries. The IOTA team is looking forward to scaling this collaboration. ENGIE Lab’s extensive expertise and proactivity in exploring new digital technologies and smart energy business models are real benefits to our ecosystem.

IOTA reaches one partnership after another

Outside the energy industry, IOTA is making further progress in blockchain integration. Earlier this month, IOTA unveiled a partnership with Volkswagen to develop new decentralized solutions for data transfer in vehicle manufacturing. Launched in 2019, the Digital CarPass is a data tracking protocol that ensures reliable and secure data collection for maintenance and increased efficiency.
